    Business Model

EGL’s business model is based on these strategic business areas:

EGL’s core competence is international energy trading across markets and commodities.

It uses its own assets to support and optimise its trading activities. Its assets include power plant capacities, long-term procurement contracts for electricity and natural gas, electricity transport infrastructure and storage capacities for natural gas. Its natural gas portfolio is used, amongst other things, to supply its own gas-fired combined-cycle power plants.

This integrated approach makes EGL one of the leaders in proprietary trading, in the sale of standardised products and in the development of structured products and innovative services for customers (origination).

EGL’s trading activities in Europe are organised decentrally in market regions. Its employees have a thorough knowledge of the relevant national and regional energy markets and can address the needs of customers directly. EGL also successfully exploits opportunities that arise during trading between different markets.

EGL trades on exchanges and with counterparties via brokers ("over-the-counter" OTC). Its services are tailored to customers such as industrial companies, medium-sized enterprises, distributors and power plant operators.
